Farm to School program
Mr. Williams former teacher of Dade County Schools and founder of an Agri-missions in Africa is partnering with DMS to establish a farm to school program and help write a grant to support it.
What- DMS will have raised beds, muscadines vines and perhaps apple trees. we will grow these crops and then sell them back to our own cafeteria and others within our community.
Who- STUDENTS!!!!- we want this to be as much student led as possible with educational guidance facilitation. So far Special ed (Mrs. Birchett), Science (Mrs. Nakhleh and Mr. Neely), as well as After Care (Mrs. Durham) have signed up for beds. We welcome any other interested clubs, classes, or organizations to sign up and be apart of this great project. It would be great to have someone interested in pursing this through the summer months. Please see Mr. Griffin for more information.
When - sponsorship and construction of beds can begin immediately. The official grant will be submitted in May. We will meet Tuesday @ 9AM in the media center
