Corrie, you have to do it! .... You have to thank him for the bed bugs.
This quote from Betsie Ten Boom to her sister Corrie brings convicting chills when you fully understand the circumstance and predicament they were in. Corrie and Betsie Ten Boom were sisters who lived in Holland during the Nazi occupation. Along with their other family members they helped to provide a "hiding place" for Jews in the surrounding area. As Dutch Christians they were insulated from the Gestopo and other Nazi perpetrators. This allowed the Ten Booms to care for and serve others throughout Europe in what came to be known as the underground. For over 2 years this family served fellow strugglers and met their needs while hiding and protecting them from those who would cause harm. Eventually a Dutch informant told the Nazis what was taking place and every member of the Ten Boom family was imprisoned or killed. Corrie and Betsie found themselves in Reavensbruck concentration camp outside Berlin. After months surviving in the camp, Corrie became distraught because she was unable to do something her father and mother had instilled in her since she was a little girl: Rejoicing in all things; Being grateful and thankful for everything, even the things that at a particular time seem awful and difficult Corrie had seen her siblings taken from her and killed, but it was the bed bugs that finally got to her. After months of sleeping on mats filled with tiny bugs and being bitten constantly throughout the night, Corrie began to lose hope. In this quote we see her sister remind her to"thank him for the bed bugs". Quote: Who said it? Corrie, you have to do it! .... You have to thank him for the bed bugs.
