Easter and Springtime give us the sense of new birth as we look around and see nature is in bloom, At first glance it seems as though the greens, pinks, purples and whites of this season have come out of nowhere. They have just showed up to bless our socks off and give us renewed energy after the dormancy of winter. The science of spring is certainly about this renewal, but it is also about regeneration. According to Webster's, regeneration is the process that allows organisms to repair and maintain the integrity of their physiological and morphological states in order to grow further and stronger.
"Repairing and maintaining the integrity of their physiological states".
That is pretty cool and is really what we are after in education during our spring time. As everyone knows this season on the educational calender is defined in one word TESTING! It is the time of the year where we measure our work and our progress and, yes, maybe even ourselves. Though the student takes the test, we as educators and parents look to our student's performance on these assessments to determine how we have done. What impact have we had on our students growth? How has the partnership between parent and educator over the past 7-8 months enabled our child and student to progress and succeed?
With the distractions of today's society education must be a partnership between parent and teacher. It must be a shared responsibility with a team minded approach. Otherwise growth is difficult and achievement is hard to recognize, we loose our focus and even worse we lower our own personal standard and level of expectation for our children.
It is my hope that this spring break has found you with time to renew and allow for regeneration to begin to take place. As springtime continues, yes there will be pruning and weeding of sorts but this is in an effort to "repair and maintain the integrity of our physiological state". At Dade Middle we are in a state of continuous regeneration and I appreciate your support of that process as we work together to accomplish our goals.
